Bravery: Yesterday, or today, depending on where you live, a team of Best Buy employees teamed up to stop a group of robbers from leaving the store. They grouped together, American Football style, to tackle the robbers and prevent the inventory from being stolen. Although this is generally unadvised, the robbers were young and unarmed. Best Buy has already awarded these brave and loyal employees and joked on twitter that they were “Only Hiring Linebackers.” More importantly, Best Buy has started to take notice of these incidents and has committed to better protecting their employees so the employees can focus on their jobs and have time to practice for their future career in football.
Compassion: On May 9th, a distraught owl adopted two young chicks after her own eggs failed to hatch. See a video here: https://youtu.be/3CghRBQB0J4. Owls are generally quite protective of their offspring but ignore other hatchlings. This owl showed kindness that many people should take inspiration from. She adopted these two chicks and raised them as her own.
Bravery: In 2019, Carleigh Berryman began her journey of bringing virtual reality to seniors who were locked inside their residences as a way to keep them happy and alert. Her company proved a success as many seniors reported feeling less trapped. It lowered the rate of depression and improved senior’s mental health. One senior even said that it, “Gave me something to get up for in the morning.” As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, this technology is being adopted in many senior homes for entertainment and exercise. To all the boomers out there, if seniors can do it, maybe tech isn’t so bad! This is another wonderful example of technology being used in a way to better humanity and actually make use more social.
